Udupi: I only asked Lingayats not to leave Hindu religion – Pejawar Swamiji

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP)

Udupi, Oct 21: “I only asked Lingayats not to leave Hindu religion. I did not say that out of fear. I do not oppose Lingayats. I am concerned because they belong to us. It is neither a suggestion nor persuasion. It is only a request,” stated Pejawar Swamiji with regard to the ongoing controversy.

He was speaking to reporters here on Saturday, October 21.

“Jamadar says that Lingayats were not Hindus so far. His statement is not true. Lingayats have participated in all the Hindu conferences and VHP programmes. VHP regional conference was held in Udupi in 1968. Siddagangashree and the then Suttoor Shree had participated in it. All the heads of Maths are saying that the voice of Lingayats is prominent in all the Hindu campaigns. The new controversy has started only now,” he added.

“I was not present during the era when Buddhists and Jain religions were separated. Even Basavanna has said that Shiva is supreme. There are several sects in Hindu religion. Though their principles and observance are different, all are in Hindu religion. Basavanna has agreed that reincarnation exists,” he said.

“Sharana in his utterances has said that those who commit crime will take birth as dog or pig. He has quoted with example Basavanna, who said that Shiva is supreme. What is the basis to say that our Shiva in Non-Vedic. What Jamadar said is false. I am saying this much due to my love towards Lingayats,” he informed.

“Hindu religion should not be weak. There is support for Hindu religion in Karnataka. I am not selfish about it. I am not going to stand for elections. Let there be discussions about it in Udupi. Discussions can also be held in Bengaluru after January 18. I am prepared to come to the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha,” he concluded.

The BJP doesn't want Unity in the country.

They wanted to divide on the community basis for vote bank.

LINGAYAT MATTER WAS STIRRED AND BROUGHT TO PUBLIC BY YEDDY AND SHOBA FOR THEIR VOTE BANK.

    @RSRB,
Fully agree with you...., in fact probably you have a point ...., b'coz it is obvious..,, now a days..., religion is no longer hold sanctity of its own..., it is impaired in the hands of polity and politically motivated guruji's, swamy's, baba's etc.., etc.,

In my opinion, its better to form seperate Lingayaths, virashaiva , sarasath brahmins, Scheduled tribes Rajputs , Nayars ets etc.... in order to avoid communal violance between religions , So that no one claim that there are in majority Its good for India , Moreover there was no "Hindu "name before British rule, All Indian natives identified themselves in their caste and tribes , Let us continue with old system

Actually for all ends and purposes, these are separate religions!

There may be some exception to the above rule - like using common pilgrimage centres.

But otherwise, the people of one group does not use the facilities and prayer houses of another group.

Each one has its own dogma, religious leaders, etc. No one group feels like a second class to another group.

Only the outsiders refer to some of these groups collectively as Muslims or Christians. If some of these groups band together (as Muslims or Christians), it is only for political purposes, not for religious purposes.

These all started in India now because of Braman Janatha Party. This party rule like this to understand others Hindus that we will not get any respect and only Bramins will be heads of us. So better us to keep separate as a different religious.

There is nothing wrong in bringing together people with similar Ethos .. ...its important to flock together as a united force .unlike in the other religions
.we do not hear of hindu sects such as Shaiva or vaishnava or with Jains fighting with each other.

Lingayats are asking for separate religion status so that they can get Minority Status and benefits. They know they can blackmail Karnataka state govt during state elections and get this privilege in exchange for votes.

Drop the minority tag for all religions in india and lingayats will drop their separate religion demand. Simple.

Let me quote Hindustan's Apex Court judgement/observation -

'Hindutva is not a religion, but a way of life and a state of mind': Supreme Court refuses to overturn its 1995 judgement

Hindu's must google it & understand the matter...,
The effort to create a perception that - "if any law abiding proud Hindustani choose to vote a particular political party out of his own free will & wisdom over any other political party, then he should not be called or termed as anti -......."

such perceptions should be defeated....!!!!! it is possible only when Hindustani's defeat such political party who are patrons of such views...,

It is my understanding that not a single Sanskrit text talks about a religion called Hindu.

What India had was a multitude of practices.

Since Arabs did not understand any of these practices, they lumped them all under one banner: Hindosi (as they called the subsontinent Hind).

Based on this, what we now have is a single tag, but in fact, a multitude of practices.

I strongly believe that the groups that want to continue under their own name must be encouraged to do so. Such an acceptance may not be politically convenient, but the followers do not have to remain second class.
