Mangaluru, Oct 19: The city crime branch (CCB) on Wednesday October 18 thwarted a theft attempt and arrested seven persons at Bejai here.
On Wednesday evening, upon receiving information that some persons in two or three bikes were planning to commit a theft, the CCB police raided the spot in front of Big Bazaar and arrested seven. The accused are said to be associates of the notorious Akashbhavan Sharan, who is currently in jail as an undertrial.
The arrested are Preetham Poojary (23), a resident of Akashbhavan, Vishal Kumar (23), a resident of Kunjathbail, Gautham Devadiga (23) of Derebail-Konchady, Vinod Raj (21) of Moodushedde, Diwakar (29), also of Moodushedde, Pravan (25), a resident of Thokkottu and Karthik (25) of Yeyyadi.
The police recovered weapons, three bikes and six mobile phones from the accused.
The accused had plotted the theft on the directions of Akashbhavan Sharan alias Rohidas, police said.
Among the accused, Preetham faces charges in three cases registered in Kadri and Kavoor police stations. Vishal Kumar has two cases registered against him in Kavoor and Barke police stations.
The accused as well as the seized items have been handed over to Urwa police for further investigation.
The operation was conducted by the CCB on the instructions of police commissioner T R Suresh, and under the guidance of DCPs Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth.
