Panaji, Jun 17: The state has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with renowned Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) to manage the emergencies in the State.
The state health minister Vishwajeet Rane in the presence of chief minister Digamber Kamat on Saturday JUne 14 signed the MoU, making the State to be the fourth state to have EMRI presence.
"This is a revolutionary step in the health sector," chief minister Digamber Kamat told reporters after signing the MoU.
EMRI, which is accessible through its toll free number 108, will handle all kind of emergencies in this coastal state, including pregnancy-related, accident, drowning or any other instances.
"State will have 18 ambulances which will cover the entire state," EMRI's chief executive officer Venkat Changavalli stated.
The firm has decided to set up an exclusive call centre for the state, which will be available round the clock.
In addition, the ambulance will be equipped with a doctor, a paramedic and all the facilities that will help to stabilise the patients on the spot before being transported to the hospital, he said.
The EMRI, which is a non profit organization conceived in 2005, has decided to work with Goa government on public private partnership (PPP) model.
