Mandya: Pregnant woman left unattended in government hospital

Mandya, Oct 19: The video of a 22-year-old woman having labour pains and seen struggling on the floor of Malavalli Taluk’s Primary Health Centre (PHC) has shocked everyone.

The PHC was inaugurated two months ago. Divya who developed pains visited the PHC at 7.30 am on Wednesday, but there were no doctors or staff to attend her. She struggled on the floor for over an hour hoping that the doctors would come.

Later, the locals arranged for an ambulance and took her to Malavalli Taluk Hospital. She delivered a baby boy.

The District Hospital has initiated an inquiry and has stated that action will be taken against the staff.

    Public Health care is worst and has not improved at all. Technology has improved a lot but public health care is very much neglected by Govt.

    We keep on hearing these news for a long time, no action at all.

    This is a shame on karnataka health system. Learn from Tamil nadu government .Health is provided free of cost in tertiary care hospitals. All hospitals well equipped with modern facilities. 200 bed icus and 1000s of doctors are available. Karnataka doesnt have 50 bed icu in many districts also. They pay full scale salary to government doctors, not retaining part time doctors like in karnataka. There are potholes not only in roads..but also inside government hospitals..Any government doctor will agree with this. And nurses also deficient in number....

    Most of the government jobs like that way only in India,
    Either hospitals or RTO because they get their all incentives daily basis (indirectly) for each application,
    that's why most people opting for government jobs in India.

    Nidderamaiya how much you spend for your son and ministers medical expensess..why that specility not available for poor and midle class..? free medical with high quality doctor is more important than your hanna Bhagya ,Sadhi Baghya and Indira cantee.

    @Dinesh Dubai,spending is another thing.but people who are supposed to be in duty are not doing their part.Very sad.Govt.centres are always a sad point i India everyone wants money job in govt.sector but working?noone.Selbst health minister is not there around ,what can you wait from others.who is by the way health minister.?Send khadarbhai there to check midnight situation.Only if everyone works according to their conscious then can be a world full of hopeful ,good music.

    Action to be taken against hospital authorities. concerned doctors and nurses to be punished with 6 months salary cut. Or to be jailed for 6 months. This is the duty of police and not the Govt.

    So according to you doctors and nurses have to work 24x7?? How many do you work in a day?? Don’t just blame on doctors and nurses. I agree that doctor should have visited her but don’t just blame doctors. Why Indian doctors are famous?? Coz they treat patient at what resources they have. In America or developed countries if ur a doctor u will be working 48hrs/week. But in India as a PG doctor they work more than 60hrs/week. Indian Medicine is running coz of PG doctors. Give is doing nothing. Blame govt not the doctors and nurses.
    WHO recommendation for a country is 1 Doctor per 1000people
    But in India it’s is 1doctor per 1600+ people. Now u imagine the work doctors are doing. How many hours does politicians work any idea?? Max to max 48hr/year.
    Doctor in this case is punished. Presently India is short of 5,00,000 doctors. Govt has any idea about this??

    This is has been the state of government healthcare since ages. Only now it is coming out because media has woken up and everybody has a mobile phone with a camera in it.
    This is due to the systematic failure of the goverments over the years in building a strong health infrastructure (similar to the systematic failure in every other infrastructure). The government has in fact abdicated its responsibility in health and prefers to pay the private sector in crores to do its work through Yeshaswini/RBSK/Vajpayee schemes. The crores spent thus could have been better utilised to establish quality goverment hospitals and health care system. Money invested in government health system would also result in a lasting health care assets for the government and public.
    But the government would rather abdicate its responsibility and pay the private sector.

    What happened into Mandya is wrong and what happened in Gorakhpur is a crime.

    Personally, I do not think it makes any difference on the ground as to whether Congress or BJP is in power.

    Let us just take Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, TN, AP and Telangana as an example. Each of these five states have a sizable population base and are ruled by five different political parties.

    Now tell me which of these states delivers a gold-standard health service to the poor / marginalized sections of our society? Or do you think it is the same story whether you are in Mandya or any of the other four states?

    Blame the govt not doctors. If govt spends more on health sector 10years back then there would be sufficient doctors in govt hospitals and phc by now. Now the doctor : patient ratio is 1:1500. Required is 1:800. Blame the doctors since he/she was not at the time is emergency. Usually PHC opens by 9:30am. If u visit some PHC there are no delivery rooms of present they are not functioning coz of shortage of staff and equipment. E.g. let’s take Natekal PHC where wards is der but no patient is admitted coz no sufficient staff. UT Kader should have addressed this problem when is was health minister. Not blaming UT Kader but all politicians are same. Politicians just inagruate PHC and go but they should put an effort to see how it’s functioning. People don’t need free food coz people know how to work and earn food. But people definitely need basic medical care required. Govt instead of spending money on bhagyas atleast they should start investing on what people really need.
    Have you ever seen a politician getting admitted to govt hospital(apart from AIIMS)??
    The day when politicians gets admitted to govt hospital that means b do get all facilities in a govt hospital.
    Hope those days are not far.
