Bengaluru, Oct 19: Irate Kannada activists went on a rampage in a theatre in the city on Wednesday October 18. The theatre where this incident took place was screening Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s film, 'Mersal', which was released worldwide on Wednesday.

Reportedly, fans of Kannada were incensed at the fact that huge cut out of Vijay was erected opposite Sampige theatre at Malleshwaram in the city. A video posted on Facebook showed angry Kannada loyalists posing threats and using abusive language against a crowd which perhaps comprised of Vijay's fans.

Vijay

A news channel said that Kannada activists got angry after some fans of Vijay attacked Kannadigas who were staring at the cut outs of Vijay erected near Sampige theatre. Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce president, Sa Ra Govindu, provided leadership to Kannada fans.who demanded to cancel the remaining shows of the film, Mersal. Reports also said that Kannada activists forced a theatre at Mysuru to cancel shows of this film.

The film continued to be showed in other threatres in the city without any trouble.

Non-Kannada films have faced the ire of Kannadigas in the past too. For example, the fans had threatened to boycott 'Baahubali' because of certain remarks made by actor, Sathyaraj, against Kannada in the past.

All the Kannadigas have to learn lots from we Mangaloreans and our tolerance.
We always appreciate talents irrespective of their language. We Have peacefully allowed the movie Kinnara Thumbigal to run for more than hundred days in Platinum. 4+4 is another example of our tolerance!
