Mangaluru, Oct 18: In a sudden development, people living in several parts of the city located in its hub were shocked in the afternoon of Tuesday as water supply suddenly stopped. On account of Deepavatli, all the family members customarily smear themselves with oil and take head bath with hot water.

It is gathered that water could not be pumped to areas like Hampankatta, Kodialbail, PVS, Bunder, Bendorewell, Car street, Mannagudda and some other areas as power supply at Thumbe suddenly got severed.

People claim that there was delay on the part of the city corporation officials in taking up the issue with Mescom officials. As such, mood of the people who were preparing to celebrate Deepavali in joyful environment was adversely affected.

Power supply resumed at about 7 pm, after which water was pumped into tanks at Thumbe. By 11 pm, normal water supply was restored to affected areas.

City corporation officials explained that water supply was affected due to power failure and that it was resumed by 7 pm. City corporator, Rajendra Kumar, and BJP city zonal unit president, Vedavyas Kamah, scoffed at what they termed as irresponsibility on the part of corporation officials.
