Udupi, Oct 16: New office bearers were elected for the All Colleges Students Association Mangaluru, State Law Colleges unit, for the academic year. The meeting for the same was held on Thursday, October 12, during the inauguration of the unit, at Hotel Mathura Comforts, here.
Neil Bryan Pereira was elected the new president of All College Students Association, Karnataka state unit. He has been an active member of the student union.
Dinakar Shetty, state president of All Colleges Students Association, Mangaluru, said, "The ACSA has been working for the welfare of students, for many years. It provides leadership opportunities to students. May the association continue its helpful work, and students unite to strengthen the union."
Congratulating and appreciating the works done by the new president, Dinakar said, "The students have made a right choice by casting their valuable vote to Neil. He is an active member of the students union. Let us keep up the same spirit in solving the problems of students."
He wished the newly elected office bearers the best.
After administering the oath, president Neil said that he would not support the rules made by The Bar Council of Inida. "BCI accords no recognition to BL/LLB through distance mode or evening colleges, for practicing as advocates. If students want to practice as lawyers they have to necessarily enroll in a recognised college or university and complete the three-year course in regular mode. If so, the correspondent students will be deprived of the opportunity of being lawyers. A writ petition has been submitted to Supreme Court in this regard. An appeal was also submitted to the concerned department, but we got no favourable response. The student association is always with them till justice is is served for correspondence students and aspiring advocates," he promised.
Suresh Shetty Gurme, businessman, Ikkalabhava Deviprasad Shetty, Belapu director, SCDCC Bank, Mangaluru, K Krishnamurthy Acahrya, social worker, Kinnimulki, Yogish Shetty, businessman, Kaup, Shyamsundar Nairy advocate, Kundapura president of Rotary Club Kota, and Suraj Indrali, state general secretary of All College Student Association, were present.
The new office bearers for All Colleges Students Association Mangaluru State Law colleges unit are Neil Periera as president, Soma Reddy K Arikeri from Alliance University of Law LLM Bengaluru as convener, Prabhu from National College of Law Shivamogga and Vimalesh from Vivekananda's Law College Putty as chief secretaries, Satya Sagar Mitra from SDM Law College Mangaluru and Vijay from National College of Law Shivamogga as vice presidents, Tippu Kattimani from SHLU Hubballi as treasurer, Raghavendra from Vaikunta Baliga Law College, Udupi as organising secretary, and Anil Venkappa from BLD Law, Jamakhandi as sports secretary.
