Mangaluru: Happier journey - time required for train travel to Bengaluru to come down

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 14: In a news which is likely to bring relief and cheers to frequent train travellers to Bengaluru, the Railway Board has given its nod to run Bengaluru - Karawar (16523) and Kannur - Bengaluru (16517) night trains through Shravanabelagola. Therefore, on four days in a week, trains will run on this route, which is considerably shorter. Date on which this decision will be implemented is yet to be announced.

At present, both these trains are run via Mysuru. As per the revised schedule, these trains will run four days in the new route and the other three days in the old route.

The people of coastal Karnataka had demanded for running both the night trains to Bengaluru via Shravanabelagola and south western railway had sent the proposal for the consideration of Railway Board. However, it is said that this proposal was opposed by railway passengers from Mysuru region. Bengaluru railway division which falls under south western railway, too had objected to it for financial considerations. As such, the Railway Board accepted the modified proposal put forth by the south western railway, it is learnt.

As reservations have already taken place on both these night trains, change in train route cannot be affected immediately, railway sources said. Once the old reservation period ends and new reservation begins, the trains might take the revised route.

Current the trains traverse 447 km when moving via Hassan and Mysuru. If they take Kunigal - Shravanabelagola route, the distance will come down to 357 km and as such, the travel time is likely to come down by two hours.

    Hi
16513/14 new night train again too slow . Suggestion strategy from bangalore ksr at 9pm instead of 715pm stoppages at yeswanthpur at 920pm chikkabanavara at 935pm , nelemangla at 955pm kunigal at 1030pm sharvanbegola at 11pm channarayapatna at 1120pm Hasan at 1215am sakleshpura at 115am subramanya at 4am. Puttur at 500am bantwal at 530am mangalore junction at 6am , Mangalore central at 630am . Surathkal at 745 am Mulki at 830am udupi at 915am kundapur at 10am barkur at 1030am, kumta at 11am karwar at 12pm .
Return joinery to start around 745pm from Mangalore to reach Bangalore by 630am. 16514/13 should be express train
Kannur train instead of 4 days from sharvanbegola ,we can make run via tumkuru permanently while 16523/24 can be made from present mysuru route.
Two useless day train 16575/76 and 16515/16 can be made into one with extra rake and maybe run as 16515/16 while 16575 /76 can be made to run twice daily to Tirupati , once to raichur sai putaparthi or somewhere around it as per track availability and connect Mangalore to rest of Karnataka and country as per available in ghat track .

"Date on which this decision will be implemented is yet to be announced" - Hope it will run on weekends directly from M'lore to B'lore ( vise versa ) through Shravanabelagola. Or else it will be useless.

Mangalore - Bangalore train must travel through Shravanabelagola daily. For the convince of Mysore travelers there can be another night train from Mysore to Vaco via Hassan-Mangalore-Udupi-Kumta-Kaarwar- Madgoan.
