Mangaluru, Oct 10: A three day state level chess championship organised by Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, public education department and DDPI north zone was inaugurated at St Aloysius High School on Tuesday, October 10.
“Chess is the game of intellectuals. It not only makes a player think but also refreshes one’s mind,” said district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai after inaugurating the state level tourney.
“Chess is a symbol of patience and plan. Politics is also like a chess game. Before we go two steps forward we should go one step back. There are many similarities between chess and life,” said minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader.
Both ministers praised St Aloysius educational institutions for providing a platform for students to showcase their talents as well as for nurturing thousands of students in their institutions and making them stars at national and international levels.
Presiding over the programme, Fr Dionysius Vaz, Rector, St Aloysius Educational Institutions said, “Like the game of chess, every step in life should be planned and be towards ones goal. One may have to face hardships and may have to wait for a long time to achieve their goals but confidence should never waver,” he advised.
He expressed happiness in organinsing the championship in the institution and assured that they will try in making it a memorable one.
Six students who studied in Aloysius and did remarkable achievements in sports were felicitated by the dignitaries.
