Udupi, Oct 9: District-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurated the district level ‘Yuvajanotsava 2017-2018’ by lighting the lamp at Town Hall, Ajjarkad here on Sunday October 8.
The programme was organized by district administration, Zilla Panchayat, youth empowerment and sports department, here.
Pramod Madhwaraj addressing the gathering said, "The district sports department will get Rs 20 lac fund for organizing the Yuvajanotsava. This is an open platform for youth to step into a national level. The Yuvajanotsava is literally an official medium for showcasing one's personality. This is an official programme organized by the government.
"While observing the recent development of youngsters, interest on cultural activities has decreased. It was like a feast for the villagers.
"Most of the youth are more active in social media networking sites like Facebook and Whatsapp. This is a very dangerous development. Youth must get into cultural and curricular activities. It should not be done for namesake. They should utilise all available opportunities.
Minister Pramod also urged the concerned department that they will welcome suggestions from the public to making the Yuvajanotsava more attractive.
Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu said, "The present day youngsters must participate in great numbers to promote and preserve rural folk art.
Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, president, CMC Udupi, Ganesh Nergi, councillor, Dinakar Herur, Fedrik, sports officer, Karkala Taluk were present.
Roshan Kumar Shetty, assistant director of youth empowerment and sports, Udupi compered the programme.
The cultural competition held in various categories namely folk, classic, group dance, Karnatik, Hindustan, Kathak and other forms were performed.
