Bengaluru, Oct 8: During a protest organized at Mysore Bank Circle here on Saturday October 7 by Youth Congress unit to register opposition to hike in cost of LPG cylinders affected by the central government, a woman activist suffered burns to her legs.
The protest was held on Saturday October 7 under the leadership of the city district unit president, Raghuveer Gowda. The injured woman has been identified as Samantha.
The other activists immediately rushed to Samatha's help after seeing that her clothes had caught fire, and doused the flames. She has been hospitalized.
It is learnt that the activists had made preparations to symbolically cook a meal in the middle of the road at the busy Mysore Bank Circle. Three hearths fired by firewood had been set and three huge utensils were mounted on them.
As the women used petrol to stoke the hearths, it caught fire earlier than expected and spread before the lady could react, as the women used bamboo pipes to pump air into the hearths with their mouths.
Youth Congress president, Basavanagouda Badarli, vice president, Amrut Gowda, and general secretary, S Prasanna, were among those present at the protest.
