Udupi, Oct 7: An unidentified man arrived in a car near Sasthan fish marker on October 6, acted as if he was buying some things, circulated several fake Rs 500 currency notes and cheated people.
The man came at about 9 am in a white car, bought some items in a shop, gave fake notes and got back loose cash. He later went to the fish market, bought fish and gave fake notes to five people. He was in the vicinity for about two hours.
When the traders gave the notes to their customers in the evening, they came to know that those notes were fake. It was discovered that they were colour Xerox copies of the notes. The notes were cut in such a way that it was difficult to suspect.
The man had targeted only women in shops and fish market and cheated them.
The police came to the spot after they received the complaint.
Some of the cameras near the shops were checked to find the suspect. But due to lack of clarity, it was difficult to identify the suspect.
