Kasargod, Oct 4: Sports flame of FIFA under-17 world cup to be held from October 7 started its journey here on Tuesday, October 3.
 
I M Vijayan, former Indian footballer was the torch bearer. E Chandrashekaran, Kerala state minister of revenue in a programme held at Kasargod city government school ground, handed over the flame to I M Vijayan. The flame will travel through several districts in the state before finally reaching Ernakulam Darbar hall gound, one of the venues of the tournaments, on October 6.


    










The tournaments will be held in six places in the country including Cochin. MLA N A Nellikunnu presided over the sports flame inaugural programme.
 
T P Dasan, president of Kerala Sports council, Beefathima Ibrahim, president of Kasargod municipal council, V V Rameshan, president of Kanhanghad municipal council, V P P Mustafa, member of district panchayat, Sanjayan Kumar, secretary of sports executive committee, M R Ranjith, committee member and T A Shafi, president of Kasargod Press club and others spoke on the occasion.
 
K Jeevan Babu, deputy commissioner and N A Sulaiman, president of district sports committee were present.
 
The flame was later taken to Melbaramba, Palakunnu, Bekal, Kanhanghad, Nileshwar, Kalikkadavu and other places.
