Mumbai: Konkani Bhasha Mandal elects new committe at GBM

Mumbai, Oct 3: Konkani Bhasha Mandal, one of the oldest Konkani organisations started in 1942, held their 75th annual general body meeting on Saturday, September 30, at St Xavier College Conference hall, Mahim.

President John D'Silva welcomed the gathering and explained the programmes undertaken by the organization. He made a special mention about the platinum jubilee of the organization and silver jubilee celebrations of Konkani Manyatha Divas held at Borivli St Ann High school hall on August 20 and expressed his joy of the success of the programme that was attended by more than 600 people.

General secretary John R Pereira read the previous year's annual report and got it approved. Treasurer Walter D'Souza presented previous year's accounts and got it unanimously approved.

The process of dissolving

The current working committee was dissolved and new committee for the next three years was elected. Dr Fredrick J D'Souza, election officer, conducted the elections.

The newly elected office bearers are president John D'Silva, vice president Albert W D'Souza, executive president Henry Lobo, general secretary Lawrence D'Souza Kamani, treasurer Walter D'Souza Jerimeri, co-secretary John R Pereira, assistant secretary Pascal Lobo, assistant treasurer Valnes Rego.

Members of the committee are P N Shanbhag, Benedicta Rebello, Betti Naz, Cyprian Albuquerque, Rozario and K Fernandes.

Pascal Lobo proposed the vote of thanks.

Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra plans to hold the 31st All India Konkani Parishat Conference in Mumbai, next year.
