Mangaluru, Sep 13: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Wednesday September 13 said that the collection of toll Suratkal, over which several protests have been held in the recent past, would be stopped once its tender period expires.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme at Mulky here, Nalin Kateel said, "Suratkal toll collection will be stopped soon after the present tender period expires.
"There are two tollgates within a distance of 12 kilometres between Hejamady and Mulky. Therefore, the one at Suratkal will be closed," he said.
"Work on the national highways is not completed. All service roads will be constructed once the pending work is done. Work on Haleangady-Mulki stretch will also be completed soon," he said answering to a question.
"Work on widening Mulky-Polali highway is in progress. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing Mulki-B C Road-Polali-Bajpe highway and Melkar-Konaje road. The project is already in DPR stage. The work is expected to be undertaken next year," he said.
Zilla panchayat member Vinod Bolkur, BJP's Umanath Kotian, Ranganath Shetty and others were present.
