Moodbidri, Sep 3: Undivided Dakshina Kannada district Kambala Samithi has decided to hold celebratory Kambala here on November 11 to celebrate clearance of obstacles including stay order on holding of Kambalas. This decision was taken at the general body meeting of the Samithi held on Saturday September 2 at Swarna Mandir here. The meeting was presided over by the president of the Samithi, Barkur Shantaram Shetty.
Discussions and consultations about ways and means to nurture and provide further impetus to Kambala were held at the meeting. It was decided to hold consultative meeting at 3 pm on September at Samaj Mandir here to decide about time table and future plans of Kambala.
Speaking on the occasion, president of the Samiti, Barkur Shantaram Shetty, said that the need of the hour is to hold Kambalas very carefully by following all the norms and rules for one year in a way that it turns out to be a model for others. Former minister, Abhay Chandra Jain, who also is the president of Koti Chennaya Jodukare Kambala Samithi here, said that everyone wants to conserve Kambala of Tulunadu for posterity. He said he will do everything within his command in the legislature to see that whatever remains to be done on the issue is completed.
Honorary president of the Samithi, Bhaskar Kotian, felt that Kambala rules, plan etc should be framed by people having experience in it and people owning buffalo pairs, and not by people not having any knowledge about it. After Naveenchandra Alva suggested for continuance of Barkur Shantaram Shetty who ably led the Samithi during this crucial period and saw to it that Kambala got permission from the government, the general body supported his proposal. The other office bearers of the Samithi were also asked to continue in their posts for a year.
