New Delhi, Sep 2: The union cabinet will be reshuffled on Sunday morning, September 3. The oath taking ceremony will be held in Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am. Shobha Karandlaje, Prahlad Joshi and Suresh Angadi, three MPs from the state, are likely to be inducted in the cabinet, say sources in New Delhi.
It is said that there were discussions to leave out minister Sadananda Gowda but his position is stable considering Assembly elections in Karnataka next year.
Uma Bharathi, Kalraj Mishra, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Sanjiv Ballal and Faggan Singh Kulasthe have resigned on Thursday night. Minister of labour Bandaru Dattatreya resigned on Friday evening. It is said that minister of agriculture Radha Mohan Singh too has been asked to resign. Few more ministers are likely to resign before Sunday.
Changes with an eye on elections
Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amith Shah have kept an eye on Vidhana Sabha elections in the state. Therefore it is assumed that Karnataka will get at least two or three seats. Younger generation is more preferred, say sources.
Discussions about Phupender Yadav, Vinay Sahastha Buddhe, Prahlad Patel, Suresh Angadi, Satyapal Singh, Himanth Biswa Sharma, Anurag Thakur, Shobha Karandlaje, Mahish Giri and Prahlad Joshi are in progress, as per sources.
Similarly those who have made excellent progress in their departments are likely to be promoted.
Prahlad Joshi was the president of the party unit in Karnataka and belongs to north Karnataka which is a vote bank. The party faced drawback in Kalasa Banduri incident. It may be an attempt to fill the gap. Shobha Karandlaje belongs to Vokkaliga community and well trained in RSS. She may be able to pull Vokkaliga voters from Mysuru, Mandya and Dakshina Kannada.
Suresh Angadi meanwhile is belonging to influential Lingayat community and from Belagavi. He can strengthen BJP by balancing the setback in the recent Lingayat- Veerashaiva campaign on separate religion.
