Mangaluru: PAGE holds ‘World Alzheimer’s Month Launch’

Mangaluru, Sep 1: PAGE (People's Association for Geriatric Empowerment), an association of over 25 organisations held ‘The World Alzheimer's Month Launch’ in a grand and colourful note.

Dr Olinda Pereira, president of PAGE, inaugurated the programme. Dr Prabha Adhikari, vice president, PAGE gave an insight into Alzheimer's disease and explained the activities of the month.

MLA JR Lobo applauded the efforts of PAGE and said that children should take care of their elders first. He was also appreciative of Mangaluru for the Alzheimer's awareness movement which will surely make it a smart city in the true sense of the word.

City police commissioner TR Suresh, IPS said, “Every day four to five elders come to me with complaints of ill treatment. I urge people to be sensitive.”

He expressed his full support to the elders and appreciated PAGE for this commendable effort.

Jerardin D'souza, founder of Mangalore Alzheimer's Association(MAA) said, “Alzheimer has no cure but it should not be a deterrent. We must address the quality of life of the Alzheimer's affected.”

He emphasized that Alzheimer's is preventable and we must all have a positive outlook and should not give up efforts in making the affected people's life manageable.

A huge gathering of elders, students of medical, MSW, Sociology, nursing, and eminent citizens witnessed the start of the campaign.

The assembled went for a walk in the park and identified various plants in the garden.

Prizes were given to those who identified most number of plants.

Dr Ravish Thunga, Dr Devraj, Mrs India Popular Soujanya Hegde and film director Sandeep Malani were on the stage.
