Mangaluru, Sep 1: The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), at the general session held on Thursday August 31, here decided to serve legal notice on Antony Waste Management Cell (pvt) Ltd which is entrusted with the contract to collect and transport garbage from across the city.

Almost all the corporators present at the meeting vociferously demanded action against the company, claiming that the company is guilty of large scale deficiency in waste disposal. At the end, city mayor, Kavita Sanil, announced the decision to issue legal notice. She said she has already asked the owner of the company to meet corporation officials. She said that she has understood the seriousness of the problem and that many complaints are received from the people. She also said that she has held discussion with previous garbage handling contractor.

Discussions in the matter began after Congress corporator, Bhaskar Moily, wanted to know whether the firm to which garbage handling has been given on contract is running the city corporation or is it the other way round. Opposition corporator, Vijayakumar, said that the workers of the firm have been creating grave problems by frequently going on strike. Mahabala Marla noted that the officials who disburse wages to workers never check whether work is being properly done. He pointed that grass on the dividers and roadside have not yet been cut so far. Many complained about the company carrying mud in the name of garbage.

Corporation commissioner, Muhammed Nazeer, said that legal notice will be served on the firm, and that the company has agreed for some modifications in the contract agreement.
