Beltangady, Sep 1: "The project aimed at pumping fresh water from seashore at Mangaluru to Bengaluru has been conceived by the state government to channelize money for the Congress in next election. It is not a scheme meant to provide drinking water to people. Funds will flow into the coffers of Congress leaders through these pipes, not water," said MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP office here on Thursday August 31, Kateel said that a sum of Rs 12,500 crore being invested in Yettinahole project is going down the drain. Although there is a possibility of providing water to people of Kolar from Bengaluru, this scheme is being ignored purposefully. "A new project is now being envisaged in the name of providing water to Bengaluru from Mangaluru with an eye of pooling funds for next election," he stressed.
Accusing the state government of following divide and rule policy, he noted that the state government has been supporting communalism by granting holiday on different dates for certain districts for Bakrid festival. At the same time, he pointed out that the government is not prepared to give holiday for Dasara. "By celebrating Tipu Jayanti, in spite of the fact that Islam does not provide for celebrating such things, the government has also been wedging a divide among the Muslim community. The government has also been trying to divide people by creating new division between Veerashaivas and Lingayats. By pursuing the policy of minority, backward classes and dalits (Ahinda) appeasement, the government has been giving differential treatment to different backward castes. This government is worse as compared to the British as far dividing the people with the objective of ruling them is concerned. It does not take the onus for protecting the interests of the society nor has it shown any commitment towards strong basic ideas. Corruption has spread right from the office of the chief minister to gram panchayat offices. Therefore, all surveys will be proved false and Yeddyurappa will become the next chief minister of Karnataka and BJP will secure over 150 seats," he predicted.
Nalin said that the road between Bantwal and Charmadi will be converted into a four-lane road and that within the next four years, almost all the roads in the district will be upgraded, and thus open up channels of development. He added that a sum of Rs 26 crore has been sanctioned to this taluk out of Central Reserve Fund.
Kateel said that he had met party workers at Arambody, Venoor, Badakodi and Naravi on Friday in order to pool support for 'Mangaluru Chalo' programme of BJP Yuvamorcha, seeking to ban organizations like Popular Front of India and Karnataka Forum for Dignity which are involved in eliminating Hindu activists. "A rally will be held on September 7 at Mangaluru. Protests will be organized on September 4 in all the gram panchayats in the district and memorandums would be submitted through panchayat development officers," he added.
BJP district general secretary, Capt Brijesh Chowta, vice president, Sharada Rai, secretary, Koragappa Naik, taluk secretary, Seetaram Naik, taluk panchayat vice president, Vedavathi and other leaders were present.
