Bengaluru, Aug 31: With KPCC Women’s Wing Chief Lakshmi Hebbalkar already expressing regrets for her remarks on the Belagavi border issue, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Dr G Parameshwar has clarified that the party will not take any action against the party leader for her remarks.
Lakshmi Hebbalkar had courted controversy by saying she would support merger of some parts of Belagavi district with Maharashtra if the Supreme Court were to decide so.
KPCC President G Parameshwara told reporters that Ms Hebbalkar has issued a statement saying “I have great respect for my motherland. I have already expressed my regrets if anybody has been offended by my speech.”
Dr Parameshwara said no action would be taken against the leader since she had expressed her regret.
Lakshmi Hebbalkar, in a press release, said: “In Belgaum, on the occasion of Ganesha fesitval my speech has been incorrectly interpreted as anti-regional, and there was absolutely no necessity or any inevitability for me to speak in this manner. After listening to the gist of my speech, selectively few aspects have been placed on the social media and projected in a manner that brings discredit to me and to my party.”
“I wish to express and convey to all of you that I have great love for my motherland and the State of Karnataka,” she said in her statement.
