Mangaluru: Bertrand Russell School holds 'Consumer Awareness Programme' at PTA meet

Mangaluru, Aug 6: Bertrand Russell English Medium School, Baikampady held a 'Consumer Awareness Programme' and the Parents-Teachers Association General Body meeting at Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Hall, Panambur, on Saturday, August 5.

'Jagruthi', the Consumer Club of the School was inaugurated on occassion by Dr M R Ravi, CEO of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Ravi said, "The Consumer Protection Act came into force on 1986. Yet, consumers are not aware of their rights and they are cheated. All should know their consumer rights.



"Not only the school, even parents are equally responsible for the development the child," he added.

The keynote address was delivered by M J Salian, president, D K District Consumer Federation.

He spoke on consumerism, and made the parents aware of their rights as consumers.

He applauded the school for arranging a programme of the like.

The programme was presided over by Aboobakar Krishnapura, trustee, New Mangalore Port Trust, Panambur. In his address he said, "Parents should understand their children and support them towards becoming good human beings".

Correspondent of the school Nisha Kiran said, "Parents should listen to their children and respect their children's opinions."

The headmistress of Bertrand Russell Primary School, Geetha, was felicitated on occassion.

Nithin Mendon and Diwakar were nominated as a president and vice president of Parents Teachers Association of the School.

President of Jawahar Educational Association Aboobakar Kukkady, Governing Council member of the School Management Hasan, headmistress of Khilriya English Medium School Asha were present on occassion.

A quiz competition was arranged for the parents on consumerism, and prizes were distributed.

Principal of Bertrand Russell Highschool Sharmila Kamath presented the annual report of the school activities.

Assistant teacher Amrutha rendered the vote of thanks. Sangitha Mendon welcomed the gathering. Kavitha Shetty mastered the ceremony.
