Panaji, May 9: Goa's anti-SEZ lobby, which has the backing of the Catholic Church, says it will revive its public agitation if the state government fails to recover land allotted to the SEZ promoters.
“We will bring to the streets the solidarity of the villages against the SEZs with a May 11 public meeting,” said Charles Fernandes, convener SEZ Virodhi Manch (SVM).Faced with growing public resistance to the special economic zones, the Goa government scrapped all the 12 SEZs that were to come up in Goa, leaving the Union Commerce Ministry in a bind over those that had already been notified. Three PILs were filed last week before the HC in Panjim, seeking directions to cancel the land allotments to SEZs by the Goa State Industrial Development Corporation.
