Mangaluru, Aug 1: Residents of Bejai New Road Seventh Cross who gathered to protest against the pathetic condition of their road and demanded its concreting, on Sunday, July 30, seemed to have been misled into protesting, not knowing the facts behind their road not be concreted, said MCC Civic Group, a forum that is actively engaged in raising issues related to civic amenities in Mangaluru.
In 2015, a case was filed at the office of the Lokayukta, Bengaluru regarding the substandard road asphalting work by local corporators. The said asphalting work was peeled off by rains in barely a month's time.
Therefore, the said matter was escalated to the MCC and subsequently to the Lokayukta for redressal, the Group said.
At present, there is a status quo ordered by the Lokayukta.
MCC Civic Group leader and RTI activist Ajoy D'Silva said that case number COMPT/UPLOK/MYS/8602/2015 had been filed in 2015 regarding substandard asphalting work, which was pending in the Office of the Lokayukta Bengaluru, who in turn had issued a status quo on the road work.
Additionally, he asked why the locals did not gather in a similar manner at the time of the said asphalting.
