Mangaluru, Jul 28: The Ladyhill Annunciation Convent sisters, together with the ACA members, priests, staff members and catholic parents of the Ladyhill institutions celebrated the sesquicentennial year of the Apostolic Carmel congregation and the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, on Sunday, July 16.
Eucharistic celebration was held in the convent chapel followed by a get-together in the evening.
Fr Stany Pereira, parish priest of Immaculate Conception church, Urwa unveiled the logo of the 150th jubilee year.
The congregation was founded by venerable Mother Veronica of the Passion in Bayonne, France in 1868.
Over the weekend, the dual celebration, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the ushering in the sesquicentennial year began with the Eucharistic Mass for the staff and students of the Ladyhill institutions, at the Ladyhill Golden Jubilee Memorial hall.
The very special occasion was followed by a cultural programme presented by the students of Std VII A and II B. Through their words, feelings and emotions the students brought out the significance of the dual celebrations.
Vocation promoter, Karnataka Province Dr Sr M Shalini AC graced the occasion and inaugurated the sesquicentennial year.
Addressing the students Dr Sr Shalini AC, emphasized the Carmelite values of prayer, silence and trust in the providence of God. A book titled ‘Mother Veronica light up my way' authored by Sr Vinent AC was released by her.
On Monday, July 17, The management and the staff of the Ladyhill institutions came together to rejoice and celebrate this occasion.
Sr Lyceria talked to the teachers about the Apostolic Carmel founderess Mother Veronica. The celebration was followed by recreational games and a sumptuous lunch.
On the July 19, the parents came together for the PTA general body meeting and the occasion was made known to them, by the headmistress Sr M Silvian AC. The Commerce department HOD Dr Devi Prabha Alva of St Agnes College was the chief guest and inaugurated the Jubilee year and addressed the assembly by giving a thought provoking guidance to the parents for bringing up their children.
