Vijayapura: ‘108’ ambulance breakdown – Snake bitten boy loses life

Daijiworld Media Network- Vijayapura

Vijayapura, Jul 16: The ambulance which should have helped to save the life of a snake bitten boy could not come to his rescue as it had a breakdown. The boy’s breath could not wait for an hour when the mechanic repaired the ambulance.

Ganesha Nayka (10) is the boy deceased. He is from Kokatanuru in Sindagi taluk.

After a snake bit Ganesha, he was taken to the taluk hospital in Sindagi. But he could not get proper medicine and treatment there. It was decided then to shift him to a private hospital at Alamela. It was discovered that the ‘108’ ambulance was not in a condition to move due to breakdown. A mechanic was called who took time to arrive. But by the time he repaired the ambulance, the boy had breathed his last.

Ironically the same ambulance transported the dead body of the deceased boy to his house.

Change of two hospitals, why first one not equipped with procedures. Just 10 minutes are sufficient for venom to spread villagers should be knowing this.

Very sad we lost a young child because of someone's mistake. Ambulance 108 is not of good use, last month I had a very bad experience by calling the 108. In Mangalore I wanted the ambulance but the ambulance driver did not know the route and he reached another part of town. I driver did not know the area. The senior citizen would not be saved. The Government should really look into it. I driver did not know the area.

Do they do maintenance on the ambulance regularly. I think they don't do proper maintenance therefore the ambulance broke down.

Look at pathatic condition of our govt hospitals, there is no anti venum injection medicine in dist hospitals, the incharge of hospitals may be taking salary above 80 thousand per month or more than that , why there is so much sickness or greedy for money in our educated society, shame.

Wasn't there any other veichle in the area to rush the boy to chosen hospital. May be they could not afford exhorbidant charges of a private transfportation.

I wonder if anyone knows the importance of Ambulance. For no reason this little boy lost his life. Had he given after not responding to the anitvenom was another question. But he never made it to the hospital table.
I humbly request all the Ambulance drivers to keep you units safe, clean and in working condition, so that innocent life can be saved in time. May god give strength to this betrayed family.
