Bengaluru, Jul 10: BJP Opposition leader on the Karnataka Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa has demanded an explanation from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for not visiting the Sri Krishna Math, Udupi, when President Pranab Mukherjee visited the temple a few days ago.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Monday, the BJP leader said Sri Vishweshateertha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Math organised 'Souharda Upahara Koota' (harmony dinner meet) and greeted the Muslims on the eve of Eid festival.
"We should appreciate the Swamiji for his laudable initiative," he said.
Eshwarappa lambasted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the Home portfolio, for the deteriorating law and order situation, especially in the coastal Dakshina Kannada district.
"There is utter chaos and lawlessness in the coastal district," he said for the State Government’s failure to arrest the culprits behind the muders of RSS activists.
He alleged that communities were being divided owing to vote bank politics pursued by the ruling Congress in the State.
The State Government has been reluctant to take action against troubleshooters in the district, particular in the Bantwal taluk, believing that the people belonging to the minority community would vote for the Congress in the next year’s elections, he said.
Imposition prohibitory orders (section 144) for the past 45 days in the taluk and its surrounding areas reflected the efficiency of the State police machinery working under the Chief Minister, the BJP leader alleged.
The Government has all the powers to identify and punish culprits. The BJP would not remained silent till the arrest of the accused involved in murder cases, he said.
