Karwar, Jul 9: A helpless mother spent 4 days with the dead body of her alcoholic son at Ankola near here. She could neither move nor shout for help because of her sickness and old age. Only after experiencing foul smell from the dead body, the students of a school found out that there was something wrong. And later the police came to know that the son was dead and the mother was sitting besides the dead body.

Vinaya Bhat (54), who was an alcoholic, had died four days back due to liver complications. His mother 80 years old Asha Vishnu Bhat came to know about this. But she could not shout or move from the place to give this news to others. The people from the village were unaware of this as they thought the mother and son had gone out to see relatives.

The children of the nearby school complained to the teacher about the foul smell from the house. The teacher informed the police about it. Police thought both mother and son had died. But when they broke open the rear door and entered, they found the mother alive sitting next to the dead body of the son, to their surprise.

When the police requested the old woman to come with them to the hospital, she said she wanted to be with her son. The local people who heard this were into tears.

Vinaya Bhat was an alcoholic and his wife had left him four years back. Asha Vishnu Bhat had another son who died four years back in USA. After that the old woman depended on Vinaya Bhat.

I notice in movies and TV serials, alcoholics are given Christian names. This is an eye opener for all that all religions consume alcohol. So stop slinging dirt at others and see the dirt in your own community.

I think neighbour's to blame. When they know such kind of situation in your neighbourhood they should've kept a eye on them. Now a days people live for themselves. Financial indipendence brought this situation.

Very sad to hear such incident. We can see here mother’s love to their children. Those who run away with their loved one leaving back their parents. Your partner’s may leave one day in such kind of situation, but your parents won’t.
