Mangaluru, Jun 30: Five days after a girl put up a Facebook post exposing an eve-teaser who stalked her, the women police on Friday June 30 arrested a man.
The arrested has been identified as Rizwan alias Arshad (29), a resident of Jeppu.
On June 25, Rashmi Shetty had on her Facebook post lashed out at a man who was following her and stopping his scooter just ahead of her and wait for her to pass. Rashmi crossed the road, but the man repeated his behaviour nearly four times, besides coming threateningly close to her. It was only after Rashmi took out her phone and snapped a picture of his scooter that he turned and rode away.
In the powerful post, Rashmi described the incident and asserted that she would not be intimidated. "These streets are as much mine as they are of undeserving a******s like you. You or a hundred like you will not scare me into staying home and not being free. This is a message from all the strong girls to you and your likes: if you try curtailing our freedom, we will fight back. And we will knock you down. I was only waiting for you to make a move so I can smack your face with my heels- the same ones you were trying so hard to catch up with. And you think you can do anything under the veil of anonymity? Here, I’m not anonymous anymore. And I won’t let you be either. And let me repeat, I’M NOT SCARED OF YOU. You thought I’d be scared, didn’t you? You thought I’d be ashamed, didn’t you? You’re the one who should be both."
Taking note of the post that went viral on social media, the women police, under the directions of the city police commissioner, filed a suo moto case.
Based on the registration number, the scooter was traced to its owner Rizwan, and he was arrested on Friday.
