Mangaluru, Jun 20: Since the last some days, rumours that Chikkamagaluru superintendent of police (SP), Annamalai, who is known to be a no-nonsense police officer, is being posted to Dakshina Kannada (DK) district as SP, are making the rounds in the district. There have been claims that the state government is mulling this option, taking into consideration the current law and order situation in the district. After this possibility began getting circulated, many messages and writings in support of this measure are appearing in social websites.
However, Annamalai, who has showed his mettle in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts, however clarified when media persons approached him, that so far he has not received any information or instruction about his posting as SP of Dakshina Kannada district.
After the video footage covering minister, Ramanath Rai's conversation with DK SP, Bhushan G Borase, came into the public domain, rumours about Annamalai's posting to the district got further impetus. There is a general feeling in the coast that this district is in need of a police officer like Annamalai, who is considered to be efficient, impartial, and aggressive.
Some sources claim that serious discussions are currently on within the government level about the need to transfer Annamalai to DK district taking into account the recent disturbances which have happened at Kalladka and some other places. The government will also need a strong police officer at the helm of the district police department as assembly election will be held next year and frequent frictions between activists of different parties are expected to happen in coastal Karnataka going by past experience.
