Palmeiras beat Bahia in goal feast

Rio de Janeiro, Jun 19 (IANS): Colombia international centre-back Yerry Mina was on target as defending champions Palmeiras beat hosts Bahia 4-2 in Brazil's Serie A championship.

Roger Guedes opened the scoring at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador before midfielder Vinicius equalised on the stroke of halftime on Sunday, reports Xinhua news agency.

Keno restored the hosts' lead after the break and Mina netted his team's third goal with an 82nd-minute strike.

Joao Queiroz breached Palmeiras' defence two minutes later but Willian put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time.

It was only the third win in eight league matches for Palmeiras this season as they rose to 12th in the 20-team standings, below Bahia on goal difference.

In Rio de Janeiro, local rivals Fluminense and Flamengo played out a 2-2 draw at the Maracana stadium.

Wendel and Henrique Dourado were on target for Fluminense while former Atletico Madrid midfielder Diego and Peru international full-back Miguel Trauco netted for Flamengo.

In other matches on Sunday, Corinthians drew 0-0 at Coritiba, Botafogo won 2-0 at Chapecoense, Atletico Mineiro beat hosts Sao Paulo 2-1 and Vitoria won 3-1 at Sport Recife.
