Mangaluru, Jun 19: Activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal on Monday June 19 staged a brief road blockade at PVS circle here in protest against district in-charge Ramanath Rai for reportedly asking the police to arrest RSS leader Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat for the recent clashes in Kalladka.
The activists assembled at PVS circle and started shouting slogans and waving flags.
They alleged that Ramanath Rai was misusing his power as minister to get innoncents like Kalladka Bhat arrested.
They also demanded Rai's resignation and demanded that if he does not step down, the chief minister should sack him.
The police intervened as soon as the protest started and arrested the protestors in a matter of minutes.
Police thwarted the road blockade and ensured that traffic was not affected much.
VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders including Sharan Pumpwell, Bhujanga Kulal and others were arrested and taken away in police van.
The protest was organized without seeking permission from the police, and hence the protestors were arrested under the orders of the DCP, it is learnt.
Police have deployed security in the area.
