Panaji, Apr 14: A Russian tourist has been found dead in a guest house at Vagator in north Goa's coastal belt.

Kabanov Valdimir, 28, a Russian national from Mockobckar city, has been touring Goa since beginning of this month and had checked in the guest house at Vagator on April 11.

Anjuna police, who is investigating the case, stated that Valdimir was found dead in the guest house on Sunday afternoon.

"The door was locked from inside and we went to the spot after receiving a call," police official stated.

Since it was a government holiday in the state on Monday April 14, the Goa medical college and hospital was yet to conduct postmortem on the body. "We will be able to know the exact cause of death only after the postmortem report is out," a police sub-inspector investigating the case said.

Anjuna police have registered the death as unnatural and have refrained from giving any primary reasons for his death.

The police station was in light due to initial goof-ups in the death of British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling. Nerlon Albuquerque, police sub-inspector then heading the police station, stands dismissed from his services.

Russians amount to second highest number of foreign tourists arriving in this coastal state. UK nationals top the list with 41.91 per cent while Russians are 08.49 per cent.

Sources stated that Russian consulate has taken cognizance of the unnatural death and would offer its reaction only after getting the postmortem report findings.
