Mangaluru, Jun 16: All the hospitals and clinics in coastal districts will observe bandh from 6 am to 6 pm on Friday, June 16 as part of statewide bandh called by Karnataka chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA).
IMA has given the call to observe the bandh to protest against the proposed law by the state government to control the private hospitals and clinics.
Dr Annayya Kulal, the convener of IMA- coastal districts, said that all the private hospitals and clinics in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada will remain closed from dawn to dusk. He informed that the emergency services will remain open during this time.
Dakshina Kannada district has more than 250 hospitals and nearly 4000 clinics. Udupi district has around 50 hospitals and close to 500 clinics. Association of Physicians of India- Udupi chapter president Dr G S Chandrashekar has confirmed the bandh and his association’s support for the same.
Several doctors from the coastal districts will participate in the Bengaluru Chalo rally organized in state capital on June 16, it is gathered.
The doctors opined that if the proposed state law comes into effect, consultancy fees will be dictated by the government which will affect the medical services.
