Mangaluru: Hospitals, clinics in coastal districts observe bandh on Friday

Mangaluru, Jun 16: All the hospitals and clinics in coastal districts will observe bandh from 6 am to 6 pm on Friday, June 16 as part of statewide bandh called by Karnataka chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA).

IMA has given the call to observe the bandh to protest against the proposed law by the state government to control the private hospitals and clinics.

Dr Annayya Kulal, the convener of IMA- coastal districts, said that all the private hospitals and clinics in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada will remain closed from dawn to dusk. He informed that the emergency services will remain open during this time.

Dakshina Kannada district has more than 250 hospitals and nearly 4000 clinics. Udupi district has around 50 hospitals and close to 500 clinics. Association of Physicians of India- Udupi chapter president Dr G S Chandrashekar has confirmed the bandh and his association’s support for the same.

Several doctors from the coastal districts will participate in the Bengaluru Chalo rally organized in state capital on June 16, it is gathered.

The doctors opined that if the proposed state law comes into effect, consultancy fees will be dictated by the government which will affect the medical services.

    Very good move by government especially treatment first and payment later for emergency cases. All hospitals must follow this procedure as lives are more important than money. Any emergency treatment must be given whether patient is rich or poor. Also good move to fix treatment rates and room rates for hospitals as day by day they are becoming more expensive than five star hotels. They are just looting money from the people and it's become the best business in the country. Medical industry should first focus in protecting lives and health of people rather than always thinking of making money. The government should also put a slab on the college fees for mbbs and md seats as this is very high and is forcing the doctors to charge a lot.

    Well said sir. Medicine is no more a service sector. Doctors are now a days only interested in money and nothing else. Barring few most Doctors nowadays are interested only in making cash. You can see most Doctors driving in BMWs and big big cars. Where does this money come form ? I would say from poor patients. The Doctor takes advanatage of their condition and makes money and buys BMWs. This is not right at all. DOctor is a noble profession and they must strive hard for the benefit of poor patients. Previously there were Doctors in Mangaluru who were role models. But the younger generation is not interested in anything other than cash. This new rule will be a good lesson to the greeedy younger geenration doctors, May god bless CM who is bringing such a rule. Jai Hind!

    Doctors strike or Bandh govt must ban and their services must bring under essential services act. Any problems they must sit across the table and settle. With out Doctors we can not live.

    Doctors going on strike! Poor people who are suffering from diseses will suffer a lot. I personally feel Helath professionals should never go on strike. Its a good move by goverment to fix fees. I dont doctors should do strike

    Doctors have their responsibility they dont shut down emergency medical services any given point of time 24x7 . You dont bother so much . They are fighting for their rights and sensitizing the govt about a law which govt has taken by unilateral decesion.
