Mangaluru, Jun 14: The prohibitory orders clamped on four taluks of Dakshina Kannada, excluding Mangaluru city, have been extended to June 21.
Following clashes in Kalladka after two persons including district president of HJV were stabbed, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has issued prohibitory orders all across Bantwal, Beltangady, Puttur and Sullia taluks.
After people belonging two communities clashed at Kalladka on the evening of June 13, frictions had arisen and stones were thrown at each other at Kalladka. In view of vitiated environment here and taking into account the volatile situation prevailing in Bantwal, Puttur, Beltangady and Sullia taluks, it was decided to enforce prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Indian Penal Code within police station limits of Dakshina Kannada district except the city police commissionerate.
In an earlier order, the district administration had stated that Sec 144 would be enforced till midnight of Wednesday June 14. Now, after taking stock of the current situation, the administration has decided to extend the prohibitory orders for another week.
Clashes had erupted in Kalladka on June 13 after stabbing of two persons, namely HJV district president Ratnakar Shetty and Khaleel. Two groups who gathered pelted stones at each other, damaged vehicles and shops were shut down. The police have deployed tight security in the area.
