Mangaluru, Jun 14: A sixth standard student of Sharada English Medium School, Shimantoor near Kinnigoli named Dhruti has drawn the attention of Prime Minister (PM), Narendra Modi, through a letter, about the need to build overbridge for the railway gate situated at Indiranagara, Haleangady in the taluk. The PM's office promptly responded to her letter, and under instructions from that office, railway department has responded to her letter.
The hopes of the people here of getting an overbridge at the spot, which had not materialized in spite of best efforts put forth by the local people through people's representatives, have been rekindled with the initiative undertaken by the girl.
Dhrti happens to be elder of the two daughters of Ramesh Kulal and Kusuma couple who reside in a rented home at Padmanur, Kinnigoli. Railway officials from Palakkad and Belapur, Mumbai, called the cellphone of the girl's father to get further details about the above requirement. The officials stated that the department is facing the problem of land acquisition at the spot for the proposed overbridge. The girl says that she will write to the chief minister and other departments concerned to address this problem.
The girl, it is said, noticed long line of vehicles near the railway gate at Indiranagara for about 20 minutes awaiting passing of a train, when she was accompanying her father to Suratkal by a bus moving on that route. She found that an ambulance with a pregnant woman undergoing labour too had to wait for long before the gate reopened. She therefore decided to do something about it and wrote a letter in her own handwriting to the Prime Minister along with full details with help from her father and a couple of others.
This development has now given rise to newfound hope among the people affected by the railway gate problem that the concerned will take interest and construct an overbridge at Indiranagara at least now.
