Mangaluru: Respond to farmers' plight or resign - Poojary tells CM Siddaramaiah

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Jun 13: Veteran Congress leader Janardhan Poojary on Tuesday June 13 lashed out at his own party and chief minister Siddaramaiah over the plight of farmers in the state and said that when farmers are protesting half naked in Mandya, the CM is blissfully enjoying power.

Addressing a press meet here, Poojary said, "In Mandya farmers are on the streets without clothes, demanding loan waiver from the government. But our CM Siddarmaiah is busy enjoying power, and has no time to address the farmers.

"If this continues, the days are not far when people will throw him (Siddarmaiah) out. I cannot remain silent when farmers are facing problems. I will attack the CM and the Congress party on this issue, I do not care about threat of termination or any other action from my party," Poojary said.

"The CM and the Prime Minister both are the responsible for the plight of farmers. They do not have any sympathy for farmers. It would be good for the nation if they were to resign immediately.

"The clippings of farmers staging protest half naked is already making headlines in international media. It is a big shame to India at the international level. On the one hand, India is facing drought and on the other, farmers are committing suicide. Both the central and the state governments are bussy promoting their own names and fame. I cannot understand what type of administration they are giving to the public," he said.

"Without satisfying the farmers in Karnataka Congress will not be able to retain power. Siddaramaiah is in deep sleep. I want tell him to kindly wake up from slumber and concentrate on the administration.

"Waive the loans. Do not wait central government and do not give excuses that the central government is not providing funds," he added, addressing himself to Siddaramaiah.

"When I was the finance minister, I waived the loans of farmers. Shivaraj Chauhan, the CM of Madhya Pradesh has already assured the farmers that he would waive their loans. Maharashtra CM has also done the same, and also Uttar Pradesh CM. So why not Siddarmaiah?" he questioned.

"It is not an issue of party. I am taking this up as a humanitarian issue. Please respond to farmers, if you (Siddarmaiah) cannot, then resign. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley should also resign. He does not have the capacity to manage the finance ministry. He is very poor in his performance," Poojary added.

Answering a question on the book distribution issue pertaining to MLA Mohiuddin Bava, Poojary said, "I am not against book distribution. But when books carry MLA's pictures, it means that the MLA is trying to introduce himself to the people of his constituency. It means he has done nothing for his constituency and people do not know him or even his face."

Who is calling him as a leader? A person who has never won any direct election from the last 30 years calling CM and other ministers to resign !!!

I'm sure he would like to contest in 2018.

    SOPERE !!!!!!!!

What will happen if all the states of Indian union demand for wave-off farmers loan from central government ? The loans are sanctioned by state government and they must exercise accountability and transparency while paying loan amount. Rupees 6 lak crores are bad loan, out of which 20 % agriculture sector. To whom the these amount is paid ?

Definitely rich and powerful sneaked in as farmer and now demanding write-off. Where the money will come ? Honest taxpayers cost ? This will only add to collapse of economy.

Those state who plead loan waiver should take entirely the responsibility. Applicable to all states including UP, Maharashtra. Otherwise public money in government institution are not going to be safe...

congress govt is in power only in two states in entire in India. Siddaramaih and captain Amarinder Singh are the only CMS at least with some credibility in congress party . They could withstand Modi wave and win elections. Being a senior congress leader you lost elections four times in row. Your age is also advanced so better be a mentor for budding youngsters Instead of pulling their legs You enjoyed power as a union minister by getting votes from your billava community and muslims. Now when at least two Muslim MLAs of coastal districts emerging as leaders you pull their legs in public . If you want to advice them advice in private. I had great respect to you because of your sincerity commitment integrity and your Mr clean image . You are loosing your respect due to your casual utterances in public . Remember that you are getting media space because of the comic value of your press conference not because of what you say . Remember in the last MP election you lost by huge margin of 100,000 votes and Ullal is the only constituency where you had alaed over 15000 votes yet you ridicule MR. UT Khader

Good advice, but our PM & his close aides are against loan waiver.
In the mean time I ask J P to listen to the plight of vehicle drivers in front of his home where 2 rumblers were constructed without any reason on either side of the main road connecting Bantwal city.
One is now covered with tar & no trouble but one exists still, hope he will ask the concerned department to undo the same & help motorists from having frequent breakdowns because of these unscientific rumblers.

If you add and calculate money according to the number of cases the total amount will exceed to what Mallya has taken as loan. Moreover he has given punishment to the Bank Officers who have not according to his order by transferring them to far places like North India etc. All these things he forgot I think.

Only depends if they are able to pay back else it will be like no profit case. With no sufficient rains it is a serious call to make.

Farmers have seen and heard nearly 5 lak crores restructured favorably for large industrialists ...
why not for them ?? just make some simple policy
loans waived off above 2 lakhs are not eligible for loans in the next three years
loans where interest are paid and principal are paid on time can avail the next loan at zero percent once repaid
loans where only principal is paid will be eligible only for the subsisted interest .
All loans below 25k should be waived off fully irrespective of the date when they were borrowed if the borrower has defaulted

Waiver of loan is not right . Best thing is that waive the interst on the loan amount and keep the balance of loan and recovery can be done when the farmer gets a good yield. Till the the banks should not harass the farmers. Once loan is waived it would be a habit .Government should make arrangements for the farmers to sell their yield and stop the menance of the middlemen.

I saw yesterday on TV, a Madhy Pradesh minister saying "Farmers are not overburdened because of loan. They are overburdened because of interest rate & we will waive off interest rate"! So, farmers will have to pay principal amount. Maharastra Govt also thinking of re-directing fund, which is reserved for development projects to loan waive off!

The "Loan waive off" affect will come to know, after 4-6 month of implementation, not immediately. RBI has already warned both Central and State Governments, loan waive off will create financial havoc.
