Bengaluru, Jun 12: A man died on Sunday, June 11 after succumbing to stab injuries sustained a day before. His friends said he was stabbed while he fought with a chain-snatcher. But police believe that there are loopholes in their version and they are questioning them.
Sai Charan (22) is the person deceased.
As per one version, when Sai Charan and his three friends were on their way to a wedding ceremony in Kaggadasapura, they saw two men on a motorcycle accosting a woman at around 10.30 pm. The friends watched in horror as one of the men snatched the woman’s gold chain.
Charan decided to act at that moment and went after the chain-snatcher. Just as he was about to pin him down, the chain-snatcher retaliated and pulled out a dagger. The chain-snatcher stabbed him thrice in the back before fleeing with his accomplice who was waiting on the motorcycle. The friends say they could not rush to Charan’s rescue as these things happened too quickly.
The friends then took Charan to Bowring Hospital. The following morning Charan succumbed to his injuries.
HAL police have registered a case of murder.
After initial investigations at the crime spot, police have detained the friends for questioning.
Police believe that there are many loopholes in the version given by Charan’s friends. “If there was an incident of chain-snatching, the woman should have approached us with a complaint. But so far no one has come to us,” said a police official.
The nature of injuries inflicted on Charan also raises several questions. There are three stab wounds on a single place in his back and nowhere else which does not indicate that there was any fight between Charan and alleged chain-snatcher.
Police have also learned that all the friends including Charan were drunk at the time of the incident.
“We are questioning Charan’s friends to ascertain what exactly happened. We need to find out whether Charan lost his life fighting a chain-snatcher or it was something else,” said a senior police officer.
Charan was a resident of Kaggadasapura and worked as an office assistant at a private company in Koramangala.
