Bengaluru: Girl who came to watch Assembly session stopped for wearing hijab

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jun 7: A Muslim student was on Wednesday June 7 refused entry the Legislative Assembly hall in Vidhana Soudha for wearing hijab, a news channel reported.

The girl was part of a group of students from Christ College who had come to the Vidhana Soudha to watch the ongoing Assembly session.

While the students were entering the gallery of the Assembly hall, the girl was stopped by the guards and asked to remove her scarf, but the student refused to do so.

News agency IANS reported that the student was asked to remove her burqa.

The police asked her to remove the burqa and subjected her to security check for around 20 minutes, IANS said.

The girl student of Christ Junior College was in tears when the security staff told her to remove the burqa.

"Someone took a video of the police asking her to remove the burqa," Christ Junior College Principal Fr Biju K Chacko told IANS.

"The police allowed her to enter the assembly gallery only after the teachers assured them about the girl's identity," he said.

Why the young student be harassed at the security point. The team leader should be made responsible and the dress code if any should be informed well in advance In case it is not permissible then let the student be informed well in advance.

As such even if the student is wearing it for her modesty what is the problem with others. At the most, if the security is worried about the safety keep Lady staff at the security level and make necessary arrangements. Why make it an issue?

If I am given freedom then I can chose to wear pant, shirt, burka, Nuns clothes, saree, Sikh Turban or anything . But here freedom is taken away of a person in the name of Pseudo Freedom.

How can you say we have freedom when others dictate us to remove what we wear???

There should be absolutely no issues with security checks by officials who ensures safety of all in places where access is controlled. However, how they perform security check is important. The very reason why the girl is wearing burka and hijab is to protect her modesty in front of non-mehram (those who are not her close relatives like parents, brothers, husband). She is not concealing her identity though. The girl accompanied with her school teacher and other class-mates from most probably from a school bus, so to a large extent there should be no security threats with this girl, although she was wearing burka and hijab. But, I am sure, she would have definitely fully cooperated if the cop directed a lady officer to do the security checks to make sure the student is in fact a girl and/or she is not carrying any items that endangers people life in public or restricted areas. Both security and the girl are right in their own perspectives, one doing his duty and other following her religious practices. If both were to respect each other in a dignified way, there would not have been any issues at all.

Wearing burkha is not a sin. It is left to the individual. But when it comes to the security one should not take chance and the person wearing burkha should cooperate with security personnel. What happens when a person enters into airport. Same precautions need to be taken in all public places for the safety of the public. Even if a legislator is wearing burkha also should cooperate with security personnel.
One should not make it an issue and particularly press should behave with responsibility

Other things started just now..and not there earlier...especially in india.
Why all of sudden needed changes now..and apply religious stigma on it.
Instead give girls there right of education which will help them in future to compete with others.
