Bengaluru, Jun 7: Union energy minister, Piyush Goyal, asserted that the central government led by Narendra Modi has no proposal before it to shelve the policy of reservation for Dalits. He said that reservation policy of the government will continue as before.
Goyal was speaking after having breakfast in the house of a Dalit in Ambedkar Colony, Hongasandra, after unveiling the statue of Swami Vivekananda at Bommanahalli near here on Tuesday June 6.
Goyal initially had Chapathi, vegetable curry and Chitranna at the house of the late Madanagiriyappa, who was a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh volunteer, and then tea at the house of Shankar.
In his address to the gathering, Goyal said that he had come here under instructions from the party's national president. "The food I had here was delicious. It is a memorable moment in my life. I visited this home as per BJP President Amit Shah's directive. I cannot forget the love and affection showered on me by my brothers and sisters of the village," he stated.
"Dalits need not worry about losing reservation benefits. The NDA government led by Narendra Modi will implement reservation for Dalits without fail," he said.
Goyal advised the Dalits to avail the benefits of welfare schemes launched by the government.
"I want all Dalits to have Aadhaar cards and open bank accounts to avail the benefits of welfare schemes," he said.
On this occasion, a cheque for Rs 1.5 lac issued by MLA, Satish Reddy, as financial assistance, was handed over to the family of Madanagiriyappa.
Speaking at the programme, 'Sab Ka Sath Sab Ka Vikas' organized by the city unit BJP Yuva Morcha at Cassia Hall in the city on Tuesday, Goyal said that the government plans to provide water, road, power, toilet and other basic amenities all over the country by August 2022. He said that his government aims at meeting this target three years ahead of the deadline.
Goyal also used the occasion to blast the Congress government in Karnataka as there was a power outage for four times in one hour during his speech.
"I think the Congress has no right to continue in power in Karnataka. If the government fails to ensure uninterrupted power supply at a Union Minister's programme, why should the Congress continue in power? It is a shame on the state government," he said.
Elaborating on the welfare programmes and reforms launched by Prime Minister Modi, Goyal said not a single corruption case was reported against the Union Ministers in the last three years.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become more popular after demonetisation of high value currency notes. He has been working day and night for welfare of the people. He has not taken a single day leave in three years," he said.
MLC, V Somanna, MLA, C T Ravi, and several BJP leaders took part in the programme.
