Bengaluru, Jun 7: In normal course, one witnesses opposition leaders mounting attack and criticisms on the ruling party during the Assembly session. Vice versa is also true. But on Tuesday June 6, Congress MLA, A S Patil Nadahalli, floored and embarrassed his party MLAs by praising BJP and criticizing the state government under Siddaramaiah.
During the discussion on drought in the assembly on Tuesday, leader of the opposition, Jagadish Shettar, accused the government of not doing enough to desilt water bodies including lakes, as a result of which farmers are forced to undertake this work on their own.
Intervening in the discussion, Nadahalli said that the current government has not been doing any effort dredge and develop small irrigation ponds and lakes. He said that several lakes in Vijayapura district which the irrigation minster represents, have not been desilted because of the apathy of the government.
"The government should have allotted ten lac rupees to each of the lakes to developed them but it failed to do so. During the BJP government, when Govind Karjol was the minister for minor irrigation, he worked very well. Highest number of lakes were developed during that period. The then BJP government had worked far more efficiently than the current one," Nadahalli commented, taking his own party leaders by surprise.
