Bantwal, Jun 7: An ATM in Vittal near here dispensed torn Rs 2,000 notes on Tuesday, June 6. As the customers who received these notes, did not get the replacement, they have registered their displeasure.
Bashir from Salethur went to the ATM, belonging to Karnataka Bank at Vittal, to withdraw Rs 8,000 to meet some medical bills. He received 4 notes of Rs 2,000 from the ATM and all of them were torn. He did not know what to do and waited outside the ATM. Later 3 customers, who came and used the ATM, also received torn notes. The security man at the ATM provided the phone number of the manager of Karnataka Bank in Kadaba. The manager told Bashir and others that vehicle carrying cash would come shortly and they could exchange the torn notes. But the vehicle did not arrive at all. Later they were told the vehicle went to Subramanya instead of Vittal and hence they should come to Kadaba and exchange the torn notes.
Sri Hari, the manager of Kadaba branch of Karnataka Bank, said that they have taken the complaint seriously and the CMS agency which supplies cash to ATMs has been asked to provide answer for the inconvenience caused to the customers. He has requested the affected customers to come to Kadaba and exchange the notes. It is not known how many people have received torn notes.
