Udupi: Kerala’s Malayalam compulsory policy- KRV to hold state-wide bandh on Jun 12

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Jun 5: Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) will organise a state wide bandh on June 12, protesting against the Kerala government's move to make Malayalam compulsory in schools,  informed Praveen Kumar Shetty, president of KSV.

Addressing media persons at press club here on Monday, June 5 he said, "Kasargod is a part of Karnataka. It was added to Kerala, due to the irresponsibility and inaction of people's representatives. There are several Kannadigas in Kerala, who want to live in Karnataka. The Mahajan Commission report clearly says that Kasargod belongs to Karnataka, but the central government neglected its implementation. Kannada writers and thinkers like Kayyara Kinhanna Rai who fought for the preservation of mother tongue. Through this bandh, KRV is demanding the implementation of Mahajan report without further delay,"

"This state bandh on June 12 is to show our support to Kannadigas and also for the fulfilment of 15 demands like implantation of Mekedatu project, Kalasa Banduri, waiving off farmers' debts and others. We will not ask permission for bandh from the police department because we are not anti-state activists. On the day of the bandh, the leaders will submit a memorandum to the concerned authority," he added.

"One of our major demands is the immediate ban on Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi (MES). MES is using the burning issue of Belagavi to provoke people. So, it is better to ban MES. KRV urges the government to control anti-national activities," concluded Praveen.

It was informed in the press meet that KRV will also hold a ‘Kasargod Chalo’ rally from Udupi on June 8.

KRV leaders Shivaraj Gowda, state vice-president; Ansar Ahmed, district president; Patel, district president of Hasan; Areef, secretary; Sampath Kumar, Padubidri unit; Prasanna Kumar Shetty and Lokesh were present.

Kerala Govt. has made Malayalam compulsory in schools but they have not announced closure of Kannada medium schools in Kasargod. Likewise there are Malayalam schools in Bangalore and Marathi schools functioning in Belgaum. So why should there be any agitation?

as per political and geographical jurisdiction is concern kasargod is part of kerala. what ever education policy framed will implemented there. but kannadias of karnataka definitely concern with kannada and tulu speaking people and their tulunad culture which will slowly vanish due to the new education / language policy. but this karnataka organisation calling for bandh is unnecessary which will disturb life of people here. but thing i appreciate style they are wearing shawl looks like gurikaras.

Why dirty politics here? Kasargod was a disputed region that finally went to Kerala and since then they have full right to implement their State language in that region. The KRV is wasting time and energy in opposing such move. Did the Karnataka Govt. not force outsiders to learn Kannada in order to get job in our State? Kerala Govt. wants the people belonging to their State to learn Malayalam exactly like our Govt. wants our people to learn Kannada. I don't think they are forcing Kannadigas in Kasargod to stop from learning Kannada, which they may have as optional subject in their schools. Calling for Karnataka bandh will not make any difference to Kerala but it will definitely make huge loss to Karnataka. Wake up you guys, if you cannot do good things, at least stop from doing bad things.

You are disrupting the day to day life of people in Karnataka by announcing bandh by these few people.

What impact it is going to have in Kerala. And, most of the people in Kasaragod protesting the new policy is from the right wing/BJP and others have no problem.

Fighting for the language is stupidity.
