Mangaluru, Jun 1: GST (Goods and Services Tax) Seva Kendra was inaugurated by S Rajkumar, IRS, chief commissioner, central excise and service tax, Mysuru zone along with Narottam Mishra, IRS principal commissioner of income tax, Mangaluru and Dr M Subramanya, IRS, commissioner central excise and service tax, Mangaluru and Dr Zakir Hussain, assistant commissioner for appeals, income tax at Attavar here on Thursday June 1.
In his inaugural speech, S Rajkumar expressed his happiness about the new service centre and said, "GST Seva Kendra is very useful both for people and tax officials. The new system of GST is very easy to know but people will take time to understand its nuances.
"In GST, the trade tax comes under one umbrella for all states. There is no provision for separate tax for each state. The Seva Kendras will play a major role in educating the tax payers and the officials," he said.
"In Bengaluru and Mysuru hundreds of people visit the tax office daily with various questions seeking clarification about GST. We do not have an official space and facility to resolve their problems in those cities. But here we have got a nice place and spacious building for the office. The credit for providing such facility for people goes to the tax commissioner of Mangaluru and his team. I hope people will get solutions for their tax related issues through this Seva Kendra. It is our duty to educate the people on taxation system and especially the latest GST," he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Narottam Mishra said, "The people of Mangaluru are always supportive to government offices. They know the differences between corporate and government offices. In implementing projects government departments are far better than corporate services. We started GST Seva Kendra before the implementation of GST Act. People have lots of doubts about GST and other taxation formalities. They always look for solutions to their tax related issues. I hope this venture would give a major relief to them. It will help to simplify the entire taxation process for them."
Welcoming the dignitaries and gathering, Dr Subramanyam said, "GST Seva Kendra is a facilitation centre that would provide assistance in uploading the required documents for registration under the upcoming Goods and Services Tax (GST). The Seva Kendra is connected with both GSTN and CBEC portals. People can either take an appointment or walk in to clear their doubts related to their migration to the new tax regime. The services are being offered free of cost to the tax payers."
The GST Seva Kendra is situated in ground floor of CR building at Attavara, Mangaluru. The centre remains open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on all working days.
