Mangaluru: Frustrated citizen dumps waste in front of gram panchayat office

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 1: Frustrated by the attitude of the people's representative and officials, a villager registered his protest in a unique way by dumping waste that had accumulated in front of his house, in front of gram panchayat office.

This incident happened at Talapady village on Wednesday May 31. The work of clearing the storm drains of filth had been undertaken at K C Road Talapady a few days back. The dirt so removed had been heaped in front of the house of Abbas, a social worker. Seeing this dump, other villagers had started to throw garbage over it, which had given rise to the fear of spread of infectious diseases.

Abbas says that when he complained to local panchayat member, he asked to show the spot where the waste can be dumped. As most of the houses around his house are built in five and three cent plots, Abbas could not find s suitable spot for the waste. He complained to panchayat on Saturday. Although the officials promised to visit the spot on Monday, no one came. Abbas therefore, decided to shift the dump the heap of waste standing in front of his house to in front of the panchayat office. He also notified the police about his plan in advance. On Wednesday morning, he poured the waste in front of panchayat office.

When authorities do not do their work and also do not bother to listen to the plea of citizens, citizens will be compelled to do this kind of reactions. Now authorities can smell the garbage in front of their office properly and start working efficiently.

@Kumar Jogappa ,Udipi,Dear Kumar Sir,think a bit further.Abbas ihas done to wake up the muncipality, because they didnt do their home work properly.when one does the cleaning of canals, and the waste should be also accordingly take it away ,and throw where wastage is thrown, but not in front of someones house.who should again clean it?when muncipality asks him where should be thrown is absolutely a laughing number. Why are they sitting there ?What work are they doing?where does muncipality throw their garbage at the end?Why are the workers there.is to be asked.Simply nothing is functioning .How can a city be a smart city when simple things are neglected.?Do we throw our waste in front of neighbours house thinking he will throw it away?

Why...?! His move is right. He complained several times, but the officers who has responsibility to clear the garbage had not done their job. Already we are paying the tax more than enough. We have to teach the lessen to all the lazy officers in the same way. Well done Mr. Abbas....

If tommorow onwards everybody start to throw garbages on roads..as a protest..what will happen.
By violence only IS will form..by non violence independance will achieve as in india.
There are many ways to protest. If everybody think like abbas society wont function.

Yes, this type of action works. Some years back in Mumbai at an octroi gate, the driver of a lorry containing fish, pleaded with staff to check his item early, since it is perishable. The staff did not bother. After 3-4 hours, the driver emptied full lorry of fish in front of octroi office and drove away. Then only they opened a special counter for perishable items.
