Shivamogga, Jun 1: Ashok Purohit from Kiranakere in Thirthahalli taluk in the district, was conferred with the prestigious 'Aryabhata' international award by Aryabhata Cultural Organization, Bengaluru, at a function organized at Raveendra Kalakshetra, Bengaluru.
Ashok Purohit, son of Subraya Acharya and Netravati couple from Kiranakere village near Kuppalli in Thirthahalli taluk, was born on August 29, 1974. At the age of 12, he took up study of astrology, priestly procedures, and Vastu Shastra at Kalikamba Vinayaka temple, Mangaluru. After studying these subjects for 12 years under the guidance of Brahmasri Vedamurty Janardhan Purohit, he went to Mumbai in 1995 where he began his professional life. Soon he became unique religious guide for well-known entrepreneurs, politicians, social and cultural organizations, as well as movie artists.
Ashok Purohit takes credit for being the only astrologer to represent India in the departments of astrology and Vastu Shastra on international level Indian festival held in Cyprus in the year 1999. His deep knowledge in astrology and Vastu Shastra also enabled him to travel to Dubai, Muscat, Bahrain, Kuwait, Singapore, England and France where he could prove his mettle. He has become a guide in astrology for many persons and as a result, has won laurels for India.
Ashok Purohit has won several awards, titles and felicitations in India and abroad from various religious institutions, organisations and entities. The international award now conferred on him has made Vishwakarma community to which he belongs in particular, and his home district, Shivamogga, and also Malnad region in general, proud of him. This award has added another feather to the illustrious cap of Purohit's achievements.
