Mangaluru: Prathik Nayak of Expert PU College bags first rank in CET engineering

Mangaluru, May 30: Bringing laurels to Mangaluru, Prathik Nayak of city's Expert PU College has bagged the first rank in CET, the results of which were announced in Bengaluru on Tuesday May 30.

The results were announced by medical education minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil in Bengaluru.

Prathik Nayak scored a commendable 99.27%.

The second rank in engineering went to Sumanth Hegde of VVS Sardar Patel College, Bengaluru, with a score of 99.16%.

The third rank in engineering was bagged by Anirudh of RV PU College, Bengaluru, with a score of 98.78%.

Speaking to reporters, Expert PU College chairman Narendra Nayak said that Prathik as a student never missed a class and worked very hard. "Rank was expected. In competitive exams we can guess the results based on the the students' academc scores and performance in model exams.

"We are proud of Prateek. The entire management is happy. So far only the top ranks have been updated in CET website, we are expecting a few more ranks in the top ten," he told daijiworld.

Prathik, son of Srikanth and Sangeetha Nayak of Kottara here, said that though he was confident of achieving good results, he had not expected to bag the first rank.

Speaking to daijiworld, Prathik's father said, "All family members are happy with Prathik's achievment. He had prepared well for the exam. We never interfered with his studies, and he prepared for the exams all on his own."

Prathik studied in Canara high school till standard 6 and in Cambridge School, Neermarga till 10th.

Prathik Nayak was also placed at 13th rank in Comed-K entrance examination for entry into private engineering colleges in the state. 

It may be recalled that Expert PU College's Srujana had bagged the top spot in science in the state in PU exams held this year. 

CET was held on May 2 and 3 across the state. The examination had been conducted in 404 examination centres spread across the state including 82 in Bengaluru. As many as 1,85,411 students of which 94,415 were boys, had appeared for the CET.

In order to support students achieving high in this examination, Karnataka government had announced in 2016 that it would provide education free of cost to top five rank holders in CET till they complete their courses.
