Bengaluru: No food, no medicine- Hotels, medical stores observe bandh on Tuesday

Daijiworld Media Network-Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, May 30: Hotels, eateries and restaurants are observing bandh on Tuesday, May 30 protesting higher tax in new GST regime.

All the hotels in Bengaluru will remain closed while response from other parts of the state will be known soon.

In a separate move, medical shops throughout the state will remain closed on Tuesday, May 30. Medical shops are protesting the online sales of medicines.

Hotels will remain closed from 5 am to 11 pm, it is gathered.

Hotel owners have said that 18% tax at AC eateries and 12% tax at non-AC eateries are on the higher side and hence should be withdrawn. Around 2,500 to 3,000 eateries which belong to the association are expected to participate in the bandh. It is yet to be known how other owners will respond to the bandh. Association members will protest at Mysuru Circle on Tuesday morning and submit a petition to the government.

Medical store owners say that the government opening E-Portal for sale of online medicine is a wrong move and should be stopped. They say more than 8.5 lacs workers, who depend on medical stores for their livelihood, are in trouble because of online sales of medicines. They also say national medical policy was ignored while opening E-Portal for online sales of medicines.

Both these bandhs are expected to inconvenience the consumers a lot as medicine and food are necessities.

Pharmacies and hotels should stop charging excess amounts if they want to stay in business.
If online companies can give door delivery of the same medicines after giving a decent discount then why not pharmacies??? My hometown pharmacist was forced to sell at discount because hospitals were giving loyalty discounts and now the pharmacy has a New bigger shop. This shows that not only has he done better but also increased his presence in the market because he changed his strategy to sell more at lesser margins. Some who are still adamant will lose out.
Hotels need to get their costing right and stop fleecing customers who sometimes are at their mercy.

Just because you hate modi doesnt give you the right to blame everything on modi.
GST rates have been decided by the centre and the state.
Notice the state also being mentioned?

Need to ask eateries/hotel to stop charging "Service Charge" first & sell water at MRP.

Consumers often forget : MRP is Maximum Retail Price and price can well be within MRP and not Above MRP.
