Mangaluru, May 29: ‘Thisri Cheet’ Konkani play staged for the second time this year saw houseful audience again on Sunday, May 28.
The drama has been written by legend late Wilfy Rebimbus. The play had been staged several times in the last 50 years. This year, the play was presented by Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) in memory of Konkani legend Wilfy Rebimbus on his 75th birth anniversary year on April 23. Due to popular demand Matt Committee Bendur presented the drama again today.
A short stage programme was held before the drama in which Daijiworld Media managing director Walter Nandalike was the chief guest. Konkani Natak Sabha president Fr Paul Melwyn D'Souza, Meena Rebimbus, Matt Committee president Arun and Dolla Manglur were present on the stage.
Some students who fared well in the recently announced examination results were honoured by Matt Committee.
Walter Nandalike congratulated the team for staging the drama again just after a month. “Houseful audience waiting in advance shows the popularity of the drama. This is also a fitting reply to those people who unreasonably criticise dramas without any solid reason. Dramatists sacrifice a lot for the drama by spending days in practice. When the play is successfully staged, some people go to social media and post useless comments,” he said,
“Some of them are failed dramatists and who do not get opportunities in drama. Many of them do not even come and watch a drama, but write about it. They try to destroy the hard work of people within a minute by posting in social media. We are a small community. We need not compare ourselves to Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam communities. All make mistakes. If you think there is any correction to be made in any drama, you can always talk to the director and actors after the drama is over instead of getting satisfaction by posting in social media. Let us criticise in a positive way and in right manner so that Konkani stage benefits,” Walter concluded.
Hazel Saldanha compered the stage programme.
The play presented with few necessary changes, but with the original Wilfy Rebimbus flavour, had super hit songs like ‘Metilda’ ‘Dorya Veller’ ‘Chinthana Phutwana’ with other two songs.
The three hour play was directed by Dolla Mangaluru, assisted by Claud D’Souza.
Dolphy Saldanha, Jossy Rego, Nigel Pereira, Cyril Fernandes, Meera Pinto, Felix Lasrado, Alwyn Veigas, Shawn Rodrigues, Valentine Kulshekar, Rynel Niddel, Deepthi Permannur, Dimple Pinto, Joswin and Ashwin Bendur, Judy D’Souza, Simon Bendur, Ethan Kulshekar with others acted in the drama.
Audience enjoyed the play which had some special scenes. The garden scene was the best among them.
Satish Suratkal and Joswin Pinto provided music.
In between the scenes, three songs of Wilfy Rebimbus were sung live by Ivan Sequeira, Prem Lobo, Claud D’Souza and Babitha Pinto.
Daijiworld was the media partner of the drama.
