Bantwal, May 27: The tension that prevailed after a youth was stabbed at Kalladka here on Friday May 26 refused to die down on Saturday May 27 too.
The police have imposed Section 144 from May 27 till June 2 in Bantwal taluk.
A group of youths, in protest against the stabbing incident, forcibly closed down shops that had opened in Kallada on Saturday morning, with the result that the town went into an unannounced, total bandh.
Mohammed Hashir, son of Yusuf, a resident of Kalladka, was stabbed by a group of three when he and two others were returning home from the mosque after Friday prayers. The accused have been identified as Mithun, Amit and Yathin. The assailants came in a car and sped away immediately after stabbing Hashir.
Also, another youth was injured in the stone-pelting on May 26 that followed the stabbing incident, it is learnt.
Demanding immediate arrest of the accused, the group on May 27 forcibly downed the shutters of shops and business establishments.
Early morning, two youths from two different communities had a fight, resulting in stone-pelting.
The police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Security has been tightened with deployment of a large number of police personnel, and higher police officials have camped in the area.
